Inside the Ryder Cup: Lessons from Team USA at Bethpage Black
I had the unique privilege of attending the 45th Ryder Cup in Long Island, New York, hosted at the iconic “People’s Course” – Bethpage Black. What began as a bucket-list golf event quickly became something far more meaningful: an experience that was both inspirational and transformational.
Not only did I get to cheer on Team USA from the sidelines, but I also had the rare opportunity to spend time with the players, captains, caddies, coaches, and even their families. What I witnessed behind the scenes was something the media can’t fully capture—the preparation, the camaraderie, the affection, and the admiration that flowed within the locker room. This wasn’t just a group of athletes; it was a team bound together by shared purpose, discipline, and belief in one another.
Being surrounded by professionals who love their craft, who are committed to being the best, and who work tirelessly to deliver an unforgettable experience for their audience creates an energy that’s impossible to ignore. It reminded me how powerful it is to be part of something bigger than yourself—something that pushes you to new levels.
That lesson resonates deeply with me. For most of my career in real estate, I operated as a solopreneur. Now, working with REAL Broker and Urban Luxe, I am part of a team that shares the same passion for excellence and commitment to creating exceptional experiences. Just like Team USA, our strength lies in our collaboration, our values, and the way we bring out the best in one another.
The Ryder Cup also showed me that grit and perseverance are universal. On Saturday night, Team USA trailed 4 ½ to 11 ½, and the outlook for Sunday seemed bleak. But then Captain Keegan Bradley gave a passionate speech about the value of team, and the power of discipline, consistency, and grit. Even world-class athletes rely on hope, but what sets them apart is their ability to keep doing the hard things, day after day, that others aren’t willing to do. That is what leads to history-making moments.
Walking away from Bethpage Black, I was reminded that being placed in unique, challenging opportunities is what produces growth. Whether on the golf course or in business, it’s the willingness to embrace those challenges, lean on your team, and keep going when the odds are stacked against you that leads to transformation.
The Ryder Cup wasn’t just about golf—it was about life, leadership, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. And I was honored to be a small part of it.
